Mole Removal
We offer surgical & non-surgical mole removal techniques at our dermatology practice. Surgical and non-surgical mole removal is a very commonly performed procedure. Moles are a collective term for skin lumps that can be present from birth or develop as we age. Moles can be raised or flat, skin-colored or dark. Moles can be removed surgically or non-surgically – depending on the size, shape, and placement of your mole. Most mole removal treatment consists of a quick, painless procedure performed with numbing cream or under local anesthetic.
Most of the time moles are harmless, however, they may not be desirable cosmetically. We specialize in cosmetic mole removal.
Facial moles typically can be removed by the dermatologist in a scar-free manner that requires no cutting or stitching.
Our dermatology practice offers a variety of modern techniques to remove moles, ranging from freezing (cryotherapy), mole shaving, laser mole removal, to traditional surgical removal. All mole removal procedures take less than half an hour.
Dr. Jill Fitchel is a board certified dermatologist who has a tremendous amount of experience in the removal of moles, lesions, (genital) warts, and more. This also includes mole removal on the face, neck, and anywhere on the body. If elected, we can provide mole removal the same day as your consultation, giving our patients peace of mind faster.
We recommend you consult with a dermatologist if you notice one or more of the following symptoms:
- Your mole(s) are changing color
- Your mole has/is changing shape and size
- Your mole has become inflamed, itchy, or painful
- Your mole is protruding or causing irritation (for example, it’s catching on clothing or becoming irritated with cleansers or makeup)
Moles can be a sign of skin cancer. If during your consultation at our Nashville dermatology practice a mole on your face or body looks suspicious to the dermatologist, a sample may be taken and sent to a lab (with your permission) to rule skin cancer out. Early detection saves lives if they do turn out to be cancerous.
* All moles that are removed are sent to a separate laboratory for histology testing by a pathologist doctor to ensure the lack of presence of skin cancer. This is a standard requirement for good medical practice and results will be quick and we will contact you should there be a problem.
Please note: The best in class board certified dermatologist, Dr. Jill Fichtel, offers both in-person and virtual consultations.
