Say goodbye to lackluster lips with just a touch of filler!
Lip fillers are all the rage these days. Heck, getting a touch of lip enhancement is almost as common lately as getting your hair colored. Well, get ready to pucker up and parade your lips with pride, because we’ve got the lip fillers you seek in the Nashville area at Transformative Dermatology in Franklin, TN!
Your lips get a lot more attention than you think. Not only are they a prominent, sexy feature of your beautiful face, but your lips also do a lot of work. For some people, however, the lips can be a source of self-consciousness, especially if they’re thinner than normal or starting to show the telltale signs of aging. That’s where the art of injectable lip fillers can be a game changer! With just the right amount of filler, your lips can be subtly shaped into a work of art that’s bound to have them curling upwards a lot more.
How do lip fillers work?
Lip fillers can be comprised of collagen, your body’s own fat, or (most commonly) hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a molecular component found naturally in the body, though it rapidly starts to decline with age. This substance has the ability to hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water, so that makes it perfect for hydrating your skin and plumping your lips!
Once injected, the filler binds to the tissue in your lips and provides a lasting, subtle plumpness that’s sure to turn a few heads.
Who is a likely candidate for lip enhancement?
Virtually anyone who desires a fuller lip look can benefit from injectable fillers. That means women and men. We’ll have a nice chat at your consultation and go over all the details to determine the lip treatment that’s best for your kisser.
What can I expect before, during, and after treatment?
We’ll start by numbing your lips to prepare them for the fillers. Once good and numb, you’ll still probably feel a tiny prick, some slight pressure, and a dull throbbing sensation when the injections are performed. But don’t worry. These aren’t bad at all and go away fairly quickly.
After treatment, your lips will likely be swollen a bit. You may also notice some mild redness or bruising at injection sites, which is totally normal. Most side effects will be minor and you can resume the majority of your normal activities once your treatment is done. When you get home, you can apply some ice to your lips if swelling or itching bother you.
Let’s talk about the kind of results I can expect.
You’ll most likely notice results right away, but there will be a little mild swelling to contend with. That said, your lips might appear just a tad too full at first. But that goes away pretty quickly just a few days after treatment. It typically takes about four weeks for the filler to completely settle and full effect to kick in.
How long do the results last?
Depending on the type of filler used, you can expect results to last anywhere from six months all the way up to two years! Yeah, we said “years!” And to dispel a common misconception, your lips won’t turn into deflated skin bags after your filler dissolves. Actually, the injections prompt your body’s natural collagen production, so they may even be just a tad larger than they were to begin with after all is said and done!
Are there any risks involved with lip fillers?
Although lip filler injections are considered a basic “in and out” procedure, they can still come with the possibility of risks. Although rare, the most serious risk is vascular occlusion, meaning a blood vessel blockage. To avoid any kind of botched situation like that, your best bet is to research multiple licensed providers and make sure there is an M.D. on site when choosing the practice that appeals most to you. Our very own Dr. Jill is a highly experienced, board-certified M.D. She performs all the lip filler injections at Transformative Dermatology.
